UNCLEAN
Named among the forbidden birds (Lev 11:13-19)
Would you eat it?
Mentioned in 5 verses (KJV)
Bird
Description
The stork was unclean to eat, but Scripture singles it out elsewhere for something more admirable than its meat. Its unfailing sense of migratory timing — arriving and departing on schedule, year after year, without being taught — became its own kind of testimony.
Key verses
“And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.”
Leviticus 11:19
Symbolism
Faithful, instinctive obedience to God’s appointed order — ‘the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times… but my people know not the judgment of the LORD’ (Jeremiah 8:7).
