Description
Quail arrived twice in Israel’s wilderness story — once as a welcome gift alongside the first manna, and later in such overwhelming numbers that the people gorged themselves sick. The second time didn’t end well.
Key verses
“And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.”
Exodus 16:13
Fun fact
After Israel gorged on a massive flock of quail, a plague struck the camp, and the burial site was named Kibroth-hattaavah — Hebrew for ‘graves of craving’ (Numbers 11:31-34).
